Monday Night Training

Captain Eldon MacDonald is showing how to operate the pumper during draft operations, Monday night`s (weekly) training was a narrow lane drill (being able to shuttle and draft water in a narrow lane). Tanker # 1 is dumping it`s load of water into a portable tank (located behind the pumper) that the pumper is drafting from.

Open House

February 5, 2006 Our Department hosted a free pancake breakfast to the residents of the Community and Fire District of St. Peter`s, this was a way to say Thankyou to the residents for their supportover the past year, this was also a way for residents to see our new pumper Engine # 2 as well as other equipment such as our Thermal Imaging Camera. Community Chairman Ronnie MacInnis officially turns over the keys to the new pumper to the Fire Chief Dave Rossiter. The St. Peters Girlguides volunteered to serve plates to the quests during the breakfast and are pictured beside the pumper

Rescue # 3

Rescue # 3 is the workhorse of our department. It answers all emergency calls in our district and soley responds to all First Responder Medical Calls. This unit not only carries first respomder medical equipment but also all of our Husrt tools and extraction equipment, rope rescue gear, ventilation equipment (saws), as well as other rescue tools.

Tanker # 1

Our main water supply source for our Community and District is through water Tankers. Our Tanker is a 1982 Spartan Armthor carring 3,000 imperial gallons of water and able to pump 840 ipgm with it`s Darley pump. This unit carries 2 high volume portable pumps and a 1,500 portable tank.

CAFC 2005 Richmond BC

After the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs Conference in Richmond BC my wife Karen and I stayed on a few extra days to see the beautiful West coast, we hooked up with Fire Chief Bruce Hall (Whistler FD) and his wife Heather who showed us the sites in the Vancouver area and in Whistler (picture above is Bruce with us up on top Whistler Mountain). We were also fortunate as Fort Garry Firetrucks sponsoured a dinner cruise of the Vancouver Harbour (pictured Karen and I going under Lions Gate Bridge).

Harley`s Firefighter Bike

In September 2005 the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs held there annual Conference in the City of Richmond BC. On display by Harley Davidson was there new firefighters edition bike. This drew a lot of attention at the Conference espically from some of those Hard Core Fire Chief Bikers like Doug Hamer from Riverview NB.

Pump Operations

The PEIFFA puts on regional courses such as Pump Operations, here is a course that we hosted in 2002 with Firefighters from our own Hall, Souris FD, Central Kings FD, Morell FD, and Charlottetown FD.

PEI Haz Mat Team

PEI `s First graduation class for it`s Hazardous Materials Teams, Team members are from Charlottetown Fire Dept Stations 1 & 2, North River Fire Dept, Croosroads Fire Dept, and St. Peters Fire Dept. Since this more members have been recruited from the Western End of the Island. Bill Hogan of the Charlottetown FD who is also the PEIFFA Training Adminstrator Presented the Certificates.

Engine # 2

Our newest Piece of Fire fighting Apparatus Engine # 2 a 2006 Freightliner M2 Four Door Cad and Chassis, 300hp Mercedes Engine with a E-One Body. The Pumper has a 1250 igpm Hale Pump, 900 Imperial Gallon Poly Tank, Foam Pro system, Top Mount Pump Panel, Ladder Rack, and Elkhart Deluge Gun. The truck body was built in E-Ones Factory in Ocala Florida USA.
This Truck is replacing our Old Engine # 2 1973 Mack Howe witha 1050 igpm Waterious pump, 800 Imperial Gallon tank (steel), this truck was purchased in 1990 used from the City of Silverton Ohio, USA.

Federal Income Tax Bill

Over the past number of years there has been three attempts to obtain a Volunteer Fire Fighter Income Tax Deduction from the Federal Government. The Bill (various names and numbers) the first time was voted down by the Federal Government, second time fell victim to a Federal Election, and most recently was killed in Committee under Report 19 a week before the last Federal Election. On Oct 31, 2005 myself and my good friend Chief Doug Hamer of the Riverview Fire Department made a presentation to the Federal Standing Committee of Finance in Moncton NB.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

An increasing part of our business is Motor Vehicle Accidents, this response sometimes requires Fire Suppression, First Responder Medical Treatment, and Extrication. MVA`s happen at anytime of the year but the winter month`s present a special hazard with regards to driving conditions whether they are collisions are simply going into the ditch, this applies to emergency vehicles as well as you can see from our little buddy Kenny.

First Responder Training

All of our members are trainined Medical First Responders, training is done on this topic every two months. Or department is fortunate to have a member that is a Paramedic, who looks after this type of inhouse training.

Control Burn

In some rare cases we will conduct a Control Burn of a structure for training purposes and at the same time to get rid of an old building that the owner wants to get rid of. This is one of the last Burns we did in the Village of St. Peters.
Because of Lialibity reasons Fire Departments are shying away from doing these types of Burns.

New Apparatus Engine 2

Our First Ever Piece of Apparatus arrived on Sunday December 3, 2005. Our Department consists of 20 dedicated Volunteer Fire Fighters that provide Fire, First Responder Medical, and auto Extrication protection to the Community of St. Peters and the surrounding St. Peters Fire District.
